Trendline Charts: Wed's top 5 charts for investors

Welcome back to Trendline!

Let’s dive into today’s top 5 charts for investors 👇️

1) Youtube’s dominance: Video is the most popular format on social media, so no surprise that Youtube continues to dominate the landscape. However, very impressive that (a) Facebook continues to stay relevant and (b) Instagram is getting more popular every year.

Watch out for Pinterest though (slightly in the lead and growing, amongst the rest of the apps).

2) Population growth in key economies: Given most of these countries have birth rates <2, net immigration is driving population growth - Canada saw >3% population growth in 2023!

3) Amazon’s loyalty: Data from Similarweb suggests that 52.5% of shoppers exclusively browse Amazon when shopping. Amazon's lead as US’s biggest e-commerce marketplace continues to be unchallenged.

4) Where America Eats: In 2023, Americans reached a record high in spending on food away from home (incl. outside food delivered home), accounting for nearly 58% of their total food expenditures. Numerous companies like restaurant chains and delivery companies are capitalizing on this secular trend.

5) Warby Parker sees consistent foot traffic growth: “Ranked among the top 10 growth chains in the Placer 100 Index for January 2025, the eye-wear chain saw strong increases in both overall visits & visits per venue”.

The DTC brand is betting big on omni-channel strategy for growth - with plans to have 900+ stores. The company reports earnings on Feb 27.
