Plus Robotics, Meta's reach and Tech's creative destruction
Hello,
In today’s post, we are covering a diverse set of charts, ranging from economic growth vs. CO2 emissions, Industrial Robotics, Technology’s impact on jobs, Meta’s reach and the Silver Tsunami.
Let’s dive in!
1) Silver Tsunami: US is getting older
US Population over 65 years of age, is set to grow 30% between 2020 to 2030, reaching 73 million by 2030 (or 21% of total population).
Entrepreneurs / investors should pay attention to this trend as rapidly aging population create higher needs for services like Healthcare, Elderly care etc.
PS: US’s old age dependency is far better than other developed economies like Japan, Korea and Italy.
2) Its possible to decouple economic growth and CO2 emissions
This is one of my all time favourite charts! We are always told that we can’t achieve economic growth without causing global warming.
It is simply not true. France did it with nuclear (65% of France’s electricity comes from Nuclear, US is at 19%)
Renewables, of course, can also be an answer, but may not be enough.
3) China > Rest of the World in robotics
US is dominating in AI (LLMs), but China is miles ahead of everyone else when it comes to Industrial robotics. Can other countries catch up?

4) Technology: Creative destruction
AI has caused many (e.g. copywriters, designers, developers) to fear for the future of their jobs. But I believe technology is a force of creative destruction. While it may kill some jobs, it also creates new ones. I don’t think we can imagine what kind of new jobs AI will create 10 years from now (although we already see specializes roles popping up, like prompt engineers).
The chart below illustrates this point very well. What happened to the accounting profession when Spreadsheets were launched back in 1980s.
5) Meta’s reach is unbeatable
64% of World’s population over the age of 13 use Meta’s products (e.g. Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram) every single day!
I doubt there is any parallel to such reach for a single company (beyond Google). Even accounting for estimation errors, this reach is extraordinary.
Note: This analysis excludes China where Meta’s products are banned.
That’s all for this post!
